A Look at Expanding Access Points

Providing timely access to care is a foundational principal at the Cohen Veterans Network. It is a topic that has been in the news quite a bit recently and a primary talking point at our 2018 Cohen Veterans Care Summit late last year.

CVN Senior Vice President of Clinical Programs Crystal Shelton said at the Care Summit that access no longer means simply focusing on the traditional in-person model of care:

A group on the cutting edge of providing access to a broad population is 7 Cups. Lara Gregorio is the Head of Health Systems at 7 Cups, a web and mobile peer-to-peer emotional support platform. 7 Cups is the world’s largest mental health system with 270,000 listeners in 189 countries, providing support in 140 languages to millions of people a month. Gregorio also spoke at the Care Summit, including touching on one underlying principal for online interactions:

Our Cohen Clinics will see any veteran or family member in crisis the same day. For those not in crisis, 94% of our clients, who responded to our post-treatment survey, reported being able to secure a first appointment as soon as they wanted it. The same high-quality care available at a Cohen Clinic is also available via a computer, tablet or phone. Clients are receiving therapy in the privacy and comfort of their own homes via CVN’s online service delivery option.
