Media Coverage Highlights for 2018

2018 was another big year for the Cohen Veterans Network. The following is a recap of our top 10 news media stories from the past year:

In April, USA Today examined what private efforts were underway to help fill the gaps in care for veterans in this country. “The Cohen Veterans Network was founded in 2016 by billionaire hedge fund manager Steven Cohen, who committed $275 million to the effort to set up dozens of clinics across the country.”

In May we held a public opening for our Killeen, Texas clinic. The event was attended by CVN CEO Dr. Anthony Hassan, U.S. Senator John Cornyn and CVN Ambassador, Medal of Honor Recipient Kyle White as chronicled by the Killeen Daily Herald.

Just a few days after the Killeen Opening came the public opening event in Denver.  The Denver Post took a deep dive into the CVN model and what that mean for local veterans. “I think we’ll be able to get folks in and get them the help they need when they’re motivated to seek it,” said Anthony Hassan, the CEO of CVN.

A proclamation was given at the end of May by the mayor of El Paso, labeling that city as “Veteran Ready.” The declaration was made inside of our Cohen Clinic in El Paso. The day included a talk given by CVN Ambassador Kyle White to local military children, as covered by local TV:

In July, the Fayetteville Cohen Clinic marked its first-year anniversary with an appearance by CVN Ambassador, Medal of Honor Recipient Kyle White. The clinic served 500 clients in year one, as covered by the Faytetteville Observer.

Our third clinic opening of the year came in August in Clarksville. That location immediately become one of the busiest clinics in the network and that need was apparent from day one, as discussed by CVN CEO Dr. Anthony Hassan on Nashville NPR.

CVN partnered with the National Council on Behavioral Health in October to unveil a new study which shed light on the root cause of the mental health crisis in this country. The study was covered broadly around the U.S., including an appearance on morning TV in Tampa.

In November the Clinic Directors from our DC and NY clinics made an appearance on the PBS program MetroFocus, taking a look at the stresses transitioning military families face.

One of CVN’s top innovations was highlighted in November, when the Denver NBC affiliate took a look at our ability to deliver care directly to the homes of our clients.

CVN Ambassador, Medal of Honor Recipient Ryan Pitts made an appearance on NY1 in November to discuss the challenges around mental health of veterans and military families, as well as our Veterans Day Art Gallery in the city.
