Learn to Crochet (11:00 – 12:00 EST)
The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Centerstone in Clarksville, TN is pleased to offer free online Learn to Crochet classes to veterans and military family members across the entire Cohen Veterans Network. Our veteran instructor Amanda will show you how to use crocheting as a relaxation technique and make cool stuff in the process. The course is 100% free – all participants need to bring is some yarn and a crochet hook! This course is offered every Wednesday – simply click here to register!
Career Service/Employment Enhancement Course 1 (12:00 – 1:00 EST)
The first in a two-part virtual seminar, host Patricia A. Piazza, Program Manager, Onward to Opportunity; Institute for Veterans and Military Families provides assistance with enhancing resumes and sharpening employment skills during these trying times. The first class covers: Organizing Your Job Search & Network – this includes making job kits in binders, organizing your email into folders for your network as well and the who, what, when & where to network. The second class on April 29, 2020 at noon, Invisible First Impressions, covers the mental images people build in their minds about another person without ever personally meeting them. Creative Workshops with Chesapeake Shakespeare Company (5:30 EST)
Offered as a free course for all veterans, families, and caregivers, the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company,participants will choose from scenes and monologues to study, read, speak, and perform (usually with a partner) under the direction of a CSC teaching artist. Bringing Midfulness Home Series (Thursdays 9:00 – 10:00 EST)
This four-week series is intended to help veterans, military members and family members use the tools of mindfulness to help during uncertain times. Each session is 30 minutes and includes a brief description of the session followed by a guided meditation to help members practice these life-changing skills during the sessions and later at home. Beginning on April 23rd, the first session Session 1 is an overview of the practice of mindfulness meditation and its physical and emotional benefits. This practice focuses on following the breath as the essential anchor for the practice to being in the present moment. Click here for an overview of the series or register.
Arts For Hearts: Nature Impressions Art Class (2:00 – 3:00 EST)
Our friends at Arts For Hearts are pleased to offer a free arts and crafts class to veterans and military family members across the entire Cohen Veterans Network. Arts For Hearts traditionally holds monthly classes in the Cohen Clinic at Centerstone community room but they have agreed to offer these same fun classes online! Grounding Techniques (1:00 – 2:00 EST)
Join us April 28th as CVN’s own, Dr. Stephanie Renno guides us through Grounding. Grounding is a simple set of strategies to help focus the mind. Dr. Renno will explain multiple grounding strategies and guests will be able to practice grounding. This free workshop will be hosted on Zoom and is open to the public. In addition to providing vital mental health services, each Cohen Clinic has become a pillar in its community in part due to a wide variety of workshops, seminars, partner gatherings, and other events held in the community rooms in each location.
During the pandemic, the network has launched this virtual community room, while the clinics are treating clients primarily via CVN Telehealth.
