Rakiya “Rocky” Ruiz, LCSW

Rakiya “Rocky” Ruiz is a Clinician at The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at VVSD in Los Angeles, California. Rocky’s appreciation for the military comes from being a daughter of an Air Force Veteran, and her time in the U.S. Air Force ROTC at Clemson University. She believes in access to mental health care for veterans and military families and is honored to be a part of the Cohen Clinic at VVSD team. Prior to her clinical work, Rocky began her professional career in law enforcement, working as a Police Officer and Victims’ Advocate for 11 years. Now, as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, she is certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT, CBT for Insomnia, Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), and Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples. Rocky is also trained in The Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS).  Other background work includes law enforcement crisis counseling, LGBTQIA, diversity & inclusion, and parenting skills. Rocky has a Master of Social Work degree from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, TX.
